'Native Americans take a man from his hammock, beat him on the head with a war club, butcher him, and grill him over a fire. Staden, shown as a bearded man, remonstrates with the men who are butchering a man. Includes scene of cannibalism, axe or hatchet, and dwellings. Text describes a slave from the tribe called the Carios, who urged his masters to kill Staden. That slave fell ill, and when Staden was unable to bleed him, killed him, believing that he would die anyway. Image title translated from chapter heading on previous page.
